I laugh at myself now....before Jackson was born I thought I already had the whole mommy thing figured out. My heart was set on using the ideas from a book that I thought would produce a perfectly rested and sleep through the night kind of baby. Ha! I was going to only feed him when he was hungry (no snacking). I was not to use any "props" to get him to sleep...meaning no noise boxes, sleep incline pillows, pacifiers, or even me rocking him to a sweet state of slumber. This was in hopes that he would learn how to fall asleep on his own...without the help of me or any other object. I was also to keep him awake after each feeding in order to produce more productive naps. Ha! So here is how we are doing....Aside from the somewhat scheduled feedings, I now have Jackson completely addicted to the pacifer, being swaddled before bedtime, a rainy type white noise from the noise box I bought last week, falling asleep in my arms, and not staying awake after he has been fed. Yikes...Im trying though. Giving it my best. I havent completely neglected the book I thought to be so perfect. Just doing it our own way I guess. I am happy to announce though that Joel and I had our first 7 full and continuous hours of sleep last night since pre baby days. We will see if tonight brings the same sweet dreams :)

7 hours is fantastic!!
ReplyDeleteemily....7 hours is great! i'm so jealous!!! it's ok, lane is and has never been on a schedule at all. right now, he's hopefully sleeping for the "night" in my arms only because he fell asleep while eating. i have told myself that our next baby will fall asleep on their own without having to be nursed...ha, yeah right. plus, we swaddled lane while sleeping till he was about 7 months or so:) the only way he'd sleep. (maybe we should go back to swaddling...) i feel motherhood is different everyday! and you motherhood looks SO good one you!!!
